Codmah is a privately owned business that was formed in 1991 by partners, John Murtagh and Trevor Rowntree. Their vision has been to provide the highest quality civil engineering support and services which is demonstrated by Codmah's continued success, growth and expansion over the ensuing years.
Our Story
Over the past 30 years we have maintained our place as a strong contender in the Civil Engineering industry by delivering high quality projects and innovative engineering solutions encompassing trenching, HDD, case boring, pipe jacking and pipe laying techniques to meet our clients' requirements.
Our organisation boasts a highly experienced workforce with a large fleet of plant and equipment which allows greater flexibility, adaptability and capacity to manage both planned and unplanned construction challenges.
Our Head Office is based at Prestons, west of Sydney and when required, we set up temporary project offices to service & support various civil projects.
In addition to the Sydney basin and throughout NSW, we have expanded to undertake both privately and Government Funded projects in the ACT, Queensland, Northern Territory, Victoria and Tasmania.
Meet The Team
John Murtagh
Managing Director
​John co-founded Codmah in early 1991 when he saw the opportunity to provide innovative underground solutions to service the utilities industry. With close to 40 years Civil Engineering experience, John continues to provide quality Project Management and contractor services to the Civil Construction Industry. John's meticulous attention to details and his ability to manage complex projects, has earned him a reputation in the industry, and helped grow the business into the multimillion-dollars business it is today.

​Andy Saunders
Construction Manager
​A civil engineer with over 30 years’ experience, Andy simultaneously manages multiple, complex infrastructure projects for various civil works, including Gas, Water, Sewer and telecommunications pipelines. During his long tenure with Codmah, Andy has won multiple awards, commending his performance on both medium and large scale projects. Having spent his early days in the field, Andy is qualified and certified in every aspect of the projects he manages.

Barbara Atkinson
Human Resources and Systems Manager
​Barbara has been in a leadership position with Codmah for over 15 years. With her demonstrated ability, Barbara manages the company's Systems and ISO Quality, WHS and Environment Compliance Certifications. Human Resources management includes employee hiring, training, succession planning, subcontractor management, inductions, and Clients’ compliance and onboarding requirements. Barbara holds several qualifications and is an appointed Justice of the Peace.

Marc O'Connell
Case Bore / Civil Project Manager
​Marc holds a Bachelor of Civil, Structural and Environmental Engineering. Marc brings to the team his experience in Contract Administration, Design and Review of construction drawings, Risk Assessments, Hydraulic Modelling and Budged Reviews. Marc works with our expert teams of drillers and machine operators, Project Managing multiple Case Boring, Civil and HDD projects simultaneously.

Robbie Rowntree
Fleet Manager
​Robbie has extensive experience at all stages of project lifecycle for our Case/Guided Auger Boring, HDD and Trenching projects. Robbie' qualifications in Motor Industry Management and Transport Engineering ensures optimisation of our fleet of plant, machinery and equipment. Robbie ensures efficient project programs, safety and compliance by providing advice and assistance to our Project Managers and collaborates with project teams to prepare for mobilisation and demobilisation.

Jack Dunne
Project Engineer
​Jack is a qualified Mechanical Engineer with experience in the energy and utility sector. Jack has over 10 years' experience working in the trenchless industry. As a key member of our Maxi Rig tendering and project management team, Jack's expertise in HDD technical review ensures works are being performed as per design and specifications.
Holly Bartley
Accounts Administrator
​Holly ensures our company's accounts payable and receivable are managed, as well as ensuring our statutory payments are in order. Holly liaises with suppliers, subcontractors and clients on all aspects relating to credit control.
