  • Decommissioning existing 375mm medium pressure steel pipeline and construction of a new 250mm diameter polyethylene (PE) gas main into an 11km section of the existing steel gas main between Frenchs Forest Road and North Narrabeen;
  • Boost the secondary gas system in the Northern Beaches area of Sydney.;
  • The innovative method used was to pull the new PE pipe through the existing gas pipe;
  • The upgrade required the pipe to withstand operating pressures of 1050kpa;
  • Approximately a 158mtr long string of welded pipe using HDD rigs to allow the rods to be inserted up through the pipe section provided a proven method for attaching and pulling back PE pipe;
  • The use of a Gator 250 allowed us the flexibility to carry out welds on bends, stub flanges and allowed us to weld the 400mm PE HDD Casing Pipe;
  • The use of a Vermeer 24x40A HDD Rig as the primary insertion technique allowed the rods to be inserted up through the pipe section and provide a proven method for attaching and pulling back the PE pipe;
  • Vermeer D100x120A HDD Rig was used as the primary HDD equipment. This Drill Rig has the capabilities to undertake the drilling and pull back of 400mm SDR17.5 PE Casing Pipe in rock for up to 600 meters;
  • Mud recycling unit placed on site to minimise the amount of waste to be removed to licensed facilities;
  • Codmah carried out Traffic control which involved extensive night works leading to the partial closure of a two lane major RTA road.
